NEC MEN’S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Marcus Rojas, Saint Francis U
Sr., GK, Fremont, CA/Bellarmine College Prep

Rojas earned two clean sheets, leading Saint Francis U to a 2-1 week. Against Loyola (MD) last Monday, Rojas posted the shutout in the Red Flash’s 2-0 victory. The senior goalkeeper also made three saves, including a diving stop with just over 10 minutes left to play, preserving a 1-0 lead and eventual win at Cincinnati on Sunday.  In total, Rojas made six saves last week to go along with a 1.00 goals-against average.

NEC MEN’S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Sebastian Ferreira, Fairleigh Dickinson
Fr., GK, Kearny, NJ/Kearny

Ferreira collected his first career shutout last Tuesday in a 4-0 victory over Howard. On Sunday, the freshman netminder made five saves and allowed a lone goal against Evansville to finish the week with an .857 save percentage and 0.50 goals-against average.
 
NEC HEADLINES

Saint Francis U knocked off AAC foe Cincinnati on the road Sunday with senior striker Brendan McGhee (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/St. Mary’s Catholic) netting the game-winner in the 14th minute.

Central Connecticut freshman midfielder Andres Muriel (Sevilla, Spain/IES Miguel Servet) scored his first career goal against Cornell on Friday night.

LIU Brooklyn’s Simen Hestnes (Oslo, Norway/Wang Toppidrett), reigning NEC Rookie of the Year Rasmus Hansen (Greve, Denmark/Brondby Gymnasium) and Romario Guscott (Kingston, Jamaica/Evander Child) each scored a goal in the Blackbirds’ 3-1 victory over Bucknell on Friday.

Sacred Heart started off the 2016 season with a 2-1 victory over MAAC opponent Iona. Senior Shaquille Saunchez (Kingston, Jamaica/Excelsior) and freshman Oscar Curras (Alcorón, Spain/IES Gabriel Mistral) scored goals in the win.

Fairleigh Dickinson had four different players score in the Knights’ 4-0 win over Howard. Senior Enver Caymaz (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) netted what proved to be the game-winner just 6:57 into the game.
