New Britain, CT -- After winning three consecutive titles from 2013-2015, Sacred Heart regained its claim as the Women’s Cross Country Champion.

The Pioneers posted a total score of 24 with four runners in the top- five, and five runners coming in the top-12.  The dynamic duo of Kate Svensen (Medway, MA/Bishop Feehan) and Tara Connelly (Holmdel, NJ/Saint John Vianney) continued their success this season finishing in the top two.

After not finishing in the top-14 at the Championships a year ago, Svensen claimed the individual title with a time of 17:34.3.  Connelly followed right behind her crossing the finish line at 18:02.1 before teammates Jody Dicicco (Berlin, CT/Berlin) and Lindsey Lucas (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) finished 4th and 5th respectively, posting times of 18:05.3 and 18:06.5. Hannah Chamblin (Memphis, TN/St. Agnus Academy) clinched the Sacred Heart victory as the fifth Pioneer to finish at 18:25.2 to take 12th place overall.

Central Connecticut’s Megan Brawner (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard) earned the 2017 Freshman of the Year award after finishing 11th overall running her home course in 18:21.8.  Brawner concluded her first cross country campaign with a top-freshman finish in the championship race to go along with a Rookie of the Week honor just a week prior.
