NEC SWIMMER OF THE WEEK 
Jillian Rice, Bryant
Jr., Trumbull, CT/Saint Joseph

Rice began her 2017-18 season in top form by winning all four of her events in a dual meet against ACC foe Boston College on Friday. The junior took home top honors in the 50 and 100 freestyle, outpacing a slew of Eagle swimmers with times of 24.59 and 53.71, respectively. She also won the 200 free by a comfortable margin in 1:56.82 before capping her successful meet by swimming the anchor leg in 24:07 to lead the Bulldogs to a victory in the 400 free relay. The Connecticut native has won eight consecutive races against Boston College and 10-of-12 overall. All three of her individual times rank in the top-three among NEC performers this season.

NEC DIVER OF THE WEEK
Kelci Abernethy, Bryant
Jr., Chandler, AZ/Perry

One of the NEC's elite divers the last two years, Abernethy did her part in Bryant's dual meet win over Boston College on Friday by capturing the 3-meter dive with a 251.02 score. She also took second in the 1-meter dive (233.99).

NEC CO-ROOKIES OF THE WEEK
Amanda Peren, LIU
Fr., Alexandria, VA/Thomas Edison

Peren opened her collegiate career in stellar fashion winning four events at a two day tri-meet with Manhattan and St. Francis Brooklyn over the weekend. The freshman won the 200 medley (2:13.75) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.95), and led off the first place 200 and 400 free relay teams to help LIU Brooklyn win its first meet of the season. Peren also took second in the 200 backstroke (2:12.63) and third in the 100 free (55.07).

Beatriz Gomes Angelo, St. Francis Brooklyn
Fr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Marista Dom Silverio

In her first collegiate meet, Gomes Angelo posted the best 500 freestyle time in the NEC this season with a winning time of 5:09.62 at a tri-meet with Manhattan and NEC rival LIU Brooklyn. She also was the runner up in the 200 free, touching the wall at 1:58.24, and third in the 100 fly with a time of 1:01.89. Gomes Angelo continued to impress in the 200 medley relay, anchoring the Terriers to a first place finish with a split time of 25.03.      


NEC PRIME PERFORMERS

• Mount St. Mary’s freshman Maggie deTar (Post Falls, ID/St. Thomas Aquinas Academy) placed first in four individual events to go along with a relay victory in Mount’s opening pair of meets against Manhattan and LIU Brooklyn.

• Saint Francis U senior Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) placed in the top-5 in five different races for the Red Flash including a second place finish in the 100 backstroke at the Justin Jennings Memorial Invitational. She finished with 87 points overall.
