Daytona Beach, FL - Sacred Heart made history Sunday at LPGA International, securing its first-ever Northeast Conference Women’s Golf Championship.

The Pioneers shot one-under par as a team during the final round of the tournament at the Jones Course and finished the three-day event with a new 54-hole record of 888 (+24).

Sacred Heart shot rounds of 297, 304 and 287 and placed four individuals in the top-10. It’s third-round 287 also set a new NEC 18-hole low score, which SHU previously set on Friday. Fairleigh Dickinson finished second with a three-round total of 920 (313-305-302) while LIU Brooklyn edged Central Connecticut State for third place with team score of 930. CCSU carded 932.

Pioneer senior Ellen Nighbor claimed individual medalist honors by winning a thrilling tie-breaker that transpired after completing three rounds and 54 holes. Nighbor, the 2016 NEC Golfer of the Year, finished the tournament with a score of 218 (71-71-76) after shooting a 76 in the final round. Teammate, and 2016 NEC individual champion, Chelsea Sedlar (73-75-70) carded the low-score of the day, a 70, and tied Nighbor for first place.

The playoff between Nighbor and Sedlar began on the par-4, 340-yard Hole No. 10. Both Nighbor and Sedlar hit beautiful shots off the tee and Nighbor’s second shot landed seven feet from the pin on the green while Sedlar was just shy of the green on the fringe. Nighbor missed the putt for birdie, but pared the hole. Sedlar chipped past the pin and bogeyed the hole.

CCSU’s Kristyna Abrahamova (221 | 77-72-72) while Sacred Heart’s Abigail Hood (224 | 75-79-70) finished fourth. Fairleigh Dickinson’s low scorer Mailen Chantry (225 | 75-78-72) and Wagner’s Pascalle Tego (225 | 79-72-74) tied for fifth at nine-over par.
