Daytona Beach, FL - Bryant shot its best round of the tournament on Sunday, sealing its wire-to-wire victory in the race for the 2017 NEC men’s golf team title. The Bulldogs carded a 291 to cap a three-day score of 884 on the LPGA International Hills Course.
Bryant finished 26 strokes ahead of second-place finisher Fairleigh Dickinson to secure its second-ever conference crown.
Wagner senior Anton Frondelius (Munkedal, Sweden/The Gunnery) became the first Seahawk player to win the NEC Championship Individual Medalist award after posting two sub-par rounds during the three-day Championship. Frondelius shot 215 for the tournament, playing two-under par over the last 18 holes. He posted five birdies, including two on the final three holes, during Round 3.
Bryant senior Ryan Tombs (Bedford, NH/Bedford), senior John Roberts (West Hartford, CT/Conard) and sophomore Ryan Brown (Bedford, NH) all shot an even par round of 72 on Sunday as the Bulldogs had four players finish in the top 11.
Fairleigh Dickinson University finished in second place overall, shooting 910 over the three days. Knights’ senior U Minn Woon (Kuala Lampur, Malaysia/Bolles School (FL)), the 2016 NEC individual champion, was the top FDU finisher, shooting 79-76-71 to tie for seventh.
Bryant, as a team and Frondelius now advance to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Regionals. The tournament bracket will be announced Thursday, May 4 at noon on the Golf Channel with Regional action scheduled for May 15-17, 2017.
