Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. – Former St. Francis Brooklyn student-athlete
Alex Delaneyhas signed a professional contract in her native Australia with the Mackay Meteorettes of the Queensland Basketball League for the 2019 season.
Delaney, a four-year star in the Terriers uniform, ranks fourth on the all-time career three-pointers list with 168 and ranks eighth all-time on the program's three-point field goal percentage list (.344). The Australian native played all four years on Remsen Street for former head coach John Thurston.
At St. Francis, she would average 8.4 points-per-game and would average 3.7 rebounds per game. Delaney was also one steal shy of 100 in her career. Alex would eventually have her best season as a senior by averaging 11.5 points-per-game and score a total of 345 during the 2017-18 season.
After her four-year stint in the NCAA, Delaney returned home to play seven games for the SEABL Women's team, Sandringham Sabres. Alex would average nine points and three rebounds. On her journey to the pros, she made a stop with the WNBL's Sydney Uni Flames, and would eventually play her first game in Australia's premier league after training with them throughout their season.
The program manager of the Queensland Basketball League would later comment on Delaney's signing, "We are extremely excited to have Alex join the Meteorettes roster for the 2019 season. Her ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter is a huge benefit for the Meteorettes who struggled in this area last year. Alex is not a one-dimensional player, however, and we love the ability she has to get her teammates involved and also defend a number of different positions on the floor."
According to sportstg.com, Alex will prepare for the 2019 Queensland Basketball season by arriving at Mackay in February.
