SFU's Javelin Thrower Sara Phelan Named USTFCCCA Honorable Mention All-American

6/7/2019

Austin, TX -- Junior Sara Phelan (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg)) added to the shortlist of Saint Francis U All-Americans with a 21st place finish in Friday's women's javelin competition at the NCAA National Championships in Austin, Texas.

"Sara has handled this week and its build-up with confidence and poise," said head coach Doug Hoover. "She represented Saint Francis University and her team extremely well. The experience of making the national championship is going to pay huge dividends next year. She has raised the bar and set new standards for our Saint Francis University Track & Field program."

Phelan, who became the first female in program history to qualify for the National Championships with her record performance in the East Preliminary, recorded a top throw of 42.82 meters on Friday to rank ninth in her heat and 21st overall, good enough to land on the USTFCCCA Honorable Mention All-America Team.

"This has been an overall amazing experience," said Phelan. The atmosphere at these championships was something I had never experienced and is something I will never forget. I proved to myself that I can compete with the best throwers in the country, and even though today didn't go as I had expected, the experience will be invaluable as I continue to improve and get ready for my senior season."
