Former MLB Commissioner Fay Vincent to Headline 7th Annual Celebrity Breakfast at Sacred Heart 10/18/2004
Fairfield, CT - Fay Vincent, the former Commissioner of Major League Baseball, will be the Keynote speaker at the Sacred Heart Department of Athletics Seventh Annual Celebrity Breakfast on Tuesday, November 16 in the William H. Pitt Center on campus. The doors open for the event at 7:00 a.m., and breakfast will be served at 7:45. Vincent, who was recently honored by the Negro League Baseball Museum, will present a well-balanced perspective on the current state of major league baseball. At the conclusion of the program, the floor will be opened for a question-and-answer session. Sacred Heart coaches will serve as waiters for the event, which will benefit the Pioneers' intercollegiate athletic program. "Tips" to the waiters, coaches and athletes will help the Pioneer athletic programs continue to successfully compete. Vincent served as the eighth Commissioner of Major League Baseball from September 1989 to September 1992. He had joined MLB as Deputy Commissioner in 1989 under the late A. Bartlett Giamatti. Prior to joining Major League Baseball, Vincent served as executive Vice President of the Coca-Cola Company until 1988. He joined Columbia Pictures Industries in 1978 as President and Chief Executive Officer. Vincent received his law degree from Yale University in 1963 and is a member of the bar in New York, Connecticut and the District of Columbia. After attending the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut, he graduated from Williams College. He served as a trustee of Williams for 18 years and received an Honorary Degree in 1990. He has also been a trustee at Carleton College and was a chair of the Hotchkiss Board of Trustees. Vincent currently serves on the Board of Directors of Time Warner, Inc., and Westfield Holdings Limited of Australia. He has previously been a member of the boards of Continental Corporation, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Norton Company, Carson Pirie Scott & Co., and Horizon Group, Inc. The Celebrity Breakfast is run under the auspices of The Pioneer Club, the new athletic development fundraising arm that benefits all Pioneer athletic programs. Previous keynote speakers at the Celebrity Breakfast have included Lou Carnesecca, Jim Calhoun, Christopher "Mad Dog" Russo, Bobby Valentine, Frank Deford and Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White.
