| Lock Haven Falls To American, 2-1, In NCAA Field Hockey Play-In |
The Lock Haven University field hockey team (18-5) was edged 2-1 by host American University (12-8) today in the NCAA Division I play-in match. With Lock Haven trailing 2-0 in the 51st minute, sophomore Kristi Shepps (Willow Street, Pa./Penn Manor) beat American goalkeeper Alyssa Poorman to make it 2-1 in favor of the hosts, but the Lady Eagles were unable to put another one past Poorman. The contest marked the fourth straight appearance in the play-in game for the Lady Eagles, including two straight setbacks at American. Lock Haven has won four consecutive Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament titles, the most recent coming on Saturday with a 2-0 win over Monmouth.

As a result of its unprecedented fourth consecutive Northeast Conference field hockey crown, Lock Haven (18-4) faces Patriot League power American (11-8) on Tuesday afternoon in a NCAA Tournament Play-In Game slated for a 1:00 pm start in our nations capital. The Haven clinched its fourth straight NEC Tournament title by blanking Monmouth, 2-0, on Saturday, November 7. That same day, American made it seven Patriot League championships in a row when it defeated Lafayette by the same score.
