Tournament Overview

Ruby Tuesday
Presenting Sponsor of the
NEC Basketball Tournament

The NEC Women’s Basketball Tournament will consist of an eight-team playoff format with all games played at the home of the higher seed. After the quarterfinals, the teams will be reseeded so the highest remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals.

NEC Tournament quarterfinal play commences on Sunday, March 10, followed by the semifinal round on Wednesday, March 13. The NEC will hold the league’s 26th annual women’s championship game on Sunday, March 17. For the sixth year in a row, the title game will be played in front of a national television audience on ESPNU. Tip-off is 5:00 pm.

The women return to a high-seed hosting format for the first time since 2007. The previous format in which a single campus site hosted the quarterfinals and semifinals, followed by the highest remaining seed hosting the championship game was utilized in 1998, from 2002-04 and from 2008-10. The NEC employed a high-seed hosting format from 1991-97 and 2005-07, had the tournament contested at one campus site (Wagner, in 1999), as well as at a municipal arena (Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton in 2000-01).
