Culver had herself a week. The rookie guard averaged 20.0 points and added 3.5 assists, 2.5 boards and 1.5 steals for Chicago State, which went 1-1 during that stretch with a win over Central Connecticut on Thursday and a two-point defeat to second-place Stonehill on Saturday. Culver’s week was highlighted by an explosive outing against the Blue Devils. Draining 10-of-18 from the field and 11-of-13 free throws, the Queens product went off for a career-high 33 points in the 84-77 triumph. That offensive outburst marks the second-most points netted by a rookie in the nation this season, behind Vanderbilt’s Mikayla Blakes, who had 36 against Georgia earlier this month. In addition, the 33 points are the most scored by an NEC rookie since LIU’s Brandy Thomas had 36 against Mount St. Mary’s on Feb. 11, 2019. Three days later, Culver scored in twin figures for the 15th time this season after she registered 17 in the Cougars’ hard-fought 66-64 loss to the Skyhawks. The rookie has put up double figures against every NEC opponent so far, and with 17.7 points per contest in league play, she ranks fourth in scoring. Culver has had a stranglehold on the NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow’s Office Rookie of the Week award since the start of conference play, taking home the honor three out of a possible four times.
