For the third time since the start of NEC play, and a league-leading eighth time this season, FDU freshman phenom Ava Renninger has been named the NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow’s Office Rookie of the Week. The first-year guard from Yardley, PA is coming off another sensational week. Thanks in part to her stellar play, FDU, which has won 14-straight games, remained perfect against conference competitors this season with an 11-0 record. In wins at Chicago State on Thursday and against LIU on Saturday, Renninger averaged 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per contest on 46.9 percent shooting from the field (15-of-32) and 43.8 percent shooting from behind the arc (7-of-16). Against the Cougars, she was one of four Knights to rack up double figures in scoring to lead FDU to the 74-70 win. Putting up 17 points to tie for the team lead, she added a season-best eight boards and a pair of steals. In Saturday’s 30-point win over the Sharks, Renninger drained four three-pointers to finish with 25 points. It marked her third 20-point outing of her career, and her second against an NEC opponent. The league’s top-scoring rookie enters the week ranked fourth in the NEC in points per game (14.5). In conference play, she is putting up 15.5 points per contest to rank second among league rookies and eighth overall.
