An outing that featured the most strikeouts by a Division I hurler in the nation this season landed Shroyer her league-leading third NEC Pitcher of the Week honor of the year. The sophomore from San Dimas, CA put down a career-best 22 batters via the strikeout in Saturday’s nightcap to help lead FDU past Mercyhurst in an extra-inning affair by a 3-2 final. In addition, Shroyer, who has 62 strikeouts on the year, had a perfect game going into the sixth frame. During the nine-inning triumph, she allowed just two runs on five hits, a walk and a hit batter. That win proved to be a pivotal one, as the Knights went on to sweep the regular-season series from the league newcomer to improve to 5-1 in conference play. Also earning the start in a non-conference tilt at Sacred Heart on Thursday, Shroyer combined for a 2.15 ERA in a pair of complete game efforts. In that stretch, she registered 27 punchouts and held opponents to a .235 batting average while allowing 10 runs — four earned — on 12 hits. She enters the week ranked fourth in ERA (3.34) while her .248 opposing batting average is good for fifth.
