A third baseman from Newbury Park, CA, Clarkson became the second player from a red-hot LIU squad to garner NEC Player of the Week distinction in as many weeks. The sophomore’s hot bat propelled her to her first-ever weekly award of her career. In addition, she helped LIU extend its winning streak to nine games, which is currently an NEC-best rally, with a three-game sweep of defending league champion Saint Francis U this past weekend. Sending all but one of her five hits for extra bases to finish with a .455 batting average and 1.000 slugging percentage, Clarkson drove in five runs and scored three more during the three-game stretch. Going 2-for-4 with two runs in Saturday’s nightcap, she helped the Sharks dig themselves out of a 4-0 hole and made it a 7-4 lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the third. Three innings later, her two-out solo shot padded LIU’s advantage to 9-4. Clarkson, who leads the team in on-base percentage (.490), walks (29) and doubles (7), currently ranks third among fellow Sharks in batting average (.286) and runs (20).
