Behind Hewitt’s explosive offensive performance this past week, Saint Francis U rolled to three wins — including two against NEC foes — to extend its current rally to four-straight contests. The first-year attacker from Devon, PA went off for 15 points this past week after she tickled the twine 10 times and tacked on five assists. In addition, Hewitt stuffed the stat sheet during that stretch by adding eight ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. In non-conference action on Monday, Hewitt netted four goals and dished out two assists against Central Michigan. Giving her team a lead they would not relinquish with back-to-back scores, she sealed the Red Flash’s first-ever win over the Chippewas — a 10-8 decision — by tacking on two more scores in the third quarter. Two days later against Howard, Hewitt racked up four points on two goals and two assists in a 14-3 win. The freshman then capped her stellar week by delivering her third, four-goal effort of the season in Saturday’s 19-2 win over Delaware State. Hewitt added an assist to that total to finish with five points on the day. Hewitt, who ranks third on the team with 23 goals, 13 assists and 36 points, is sixth in the NEC in points per game (2.57) and eighth in the circuit in assists per contest (0.93). This is the third NEC Rookie of the Week award for Hewitt, which leads all first-year players in the conference. In addition, Saint Francis U has taken home four NEC Rookie of the Week honor, as Heather Delbone was the first to get in on the action on Feb. 17.
