Garcia helped Saint Francis U keep its postseason hopes alive this past week, as her contributions helped the Red Flash go 3-0 in a stretch that included consecutive league wins over Howard and Delaware State. The Kingsville, MD product combined for 15 ground balls, 14 caused turnovers and nine draw controls to anchor a defense that conceded just 13 goals to its opposition. A sophomore defender, Garcia got the week going by causing four turnovers to lead Saint Francis U to a 10-8 win over Central Michigan on Monday. The victory marked the program’s first-ever against the Chippewas. Two days later, she wreaked even more havoc on Howard with six ground balls, five caused turnovers and six draw controls in the commanding 14-3 win. Each of those numbers were career bests. On Saturday against Delaware State, Garcia, who transferred to Saint Francis U from Saint Joseph’s, matched her career-best totals in ground balls and caused turnovers to lead the Red Flash past the Hornets by way of a 19-2 final. Saturday’s win extended Saint Francis U’s streak against conference competitors to four games. Garica leads Saint Francis U and is ranked first among all NEC players with 46 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers, while her 3.29 ground balls per game and 2.21 caused turnovers per contest are also team- and league-best marks. With this week’s award, she is the second player in the circuit this season to earn a pair of NEC Defensive Player of the Week nods.
