Henrich closed out Mercyhurst’s first-ever NEC slate on a strong note. In a three-game set at Le Moyne, the first-year utility player combined to go 5-for-9 at the plate, and during that stretch, she launched a pair of home runs and knocked one double. A native of Eden, NY, Henrich did most of her damage in Sunday’s nightcap. She helped Mercyhurst bounce back from a series-opening defeat by going yard two times and doubling once for five RBI. Opening the scoring with her first long ball — a two-run shot in the top of the first — she tied up the game at 6-6 with a fifth-inning three-run blast. That homer sparked an 8-0 rally that stretched through three innings and put the Lakers in front for good in the eventual 11-10 victory. Henrich also had an impressive game against non-conference foe Robert Morris earlier in the week on Tuesday. She went 2-for-3 against the Colonials and went yard once to lead the Lakers’ bats. On the week, Mercyhurst’s clean-up hitter crafted a 2.000 OPS. She ranks third among fellow teammates with a .305 batting average while her four home runs are good for second on the squad. This is Henrich’s first-ever NEC Rookie of the Week award, and the third for a Mercyhurst player, as she joins Mackenzie Gillis (Feb. 18) and Jazlynn Sanders (April 8).
