Last Week’s Stats: 2.72 points/set, 1.78 kills/set, 1.56 blocks/set
Grannell became the second New Haven player to garner NEC/Molten Defensive Player of the Week honors, as she followed in the footsteps of sophomore libero/defensive specialist Payton Malinoski, who took home the award last week. Hailing from near-by Hamden, CT, Grannell, a graduate middle blocker who transferred to New Haven from UAlbany, paced the circuit last week with 14 total blocks in three matches. During that stretch, she averaged 1.56 blocks per set for the Chargers, who took on Providence in midweek action before traveling to New Mexico State for a two-match set. Grannell’s week was highlighted by a six-block effort in New Haven’s final match, a 3-0 defeat to the Aggies on Saturday. Delivering 10-more rejections than the next closest competitor in the league, she ranks first in the NEC with 1.56 blocks per set this season. This is her first weekly award from the NEC.
