After battling to a 1-1 draw, #2 seed Central Connecticut State captured its third straight NEC women's soccer crown, defeating #4 seed Sacred Heart, 4-1 via penalty kicks. The Blue Devils' Jessica McCavanagh scored her second goal of the tournament early in the second half for CCSU, but the Pioneers' registered the equalizer with ten minutes to play in regulation on a goal by Erica Rico. The two teams battled through two scoreless overtime periods before the game headed to penalty kicks. CCSU goalkeeper Ashley Ferra was named Tournament Most Valuable Player. The Blue Devils will now represent the NEC as the league's automatic qualifier in the NCAA Tournament. First round NCAA play begins on Friday, November 12 at campus sites. CCSU will learn its NCAA opponent on the Monday afternoon selection show to air live on ESPNEWS at 4:30 pm.
