Late Goal Leads Long Island To NEC Men's Soccer Title

11/14/2004

Tournament MVP Jonas Stigh scored on a header off a corner kick with 2:36 remaining in the contest to break a scoreless deadlock and Long Island held on to capture its first NEC Men's Soccer Championship since 1997 with a 1-0 win over top-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson at University Stadium in Teaneck, NJ on Sunday afternoon.  The setback ended the Knights' four-year reign as NEC champions.  Long Island will now advance to NCAA College Cup with first round play beginning on November 19-20 at campus sites.  NCAA pairings will be announced on Monday afternoon at 4:30 pm on ESPN News.
