Moon Township, Pa. - Robert Morris University men's soccer player Jamie Dodds (Hamilton, Ont. / Sir Allen McNab) has signed a contract to play professionally for the Toronto Lynx of the North American A-League.
The Toronto Lynx play in the Canadian component of the North American A-League that includes the Vancouver Whitecaps, the Montreal Impact, the Calgary Mustangs and the Edmonton Aviators. The Lynx will open their 2004 regular season April 17 with a match against Puerto Rico.
Dodds, a three-time All-Northeast Conference honoree, finished his career at RMU with 25 goals, 20 assists and 70 points. He ranked second on the Colonial squad in goals (7), assists (7) and points (54) in 2003. Dodds, who was named the 2002 NEC Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year, is tied for third in RMU's career record book for assists (20) and is fifth in goals (25).
"Midfielders that add offense are hard to find, and that is what Jamie will bring to the Toronto Lynx," said Robert Morris head coach Bill Denniston. "Being signed by Toronto is a credit to all his hard work on the field."
Dodds joins his brother, Rhian Dodds (Hamilton, Ont. / Sir Allen McNab), and former Colonial Said Ali (Hamilton, Ont. / St. Bonaventure) in the professional ranks. Ali is currently a member of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, while Rhian Dodds is seeing fulltime action with Killmarnock Football Club of the Scottish Premiere League.
