Blairsville, PA -- St. Francis (PA) captured its third straight NEC Women's Golf Championship and fifth in the six years the event has been contested, rolling to a 19-stroke victory over runner-up Long Island at Chestnut Ridge Golf Club in Blarsville, PA.  As a team, the Red Flash posted a two-day score of 662 at the par-72, 5,840 yard course.

Long Island, which shaved 29 strokes off its first round score, finished second with 681.  Central Connecticut State (696) took third, followed by Wagner (704), Monmouth (722), Mount St. Mary's (744), Sacred Heart (796) and Robert Morris (1,111).

Wagner sophomore Alysse Sweeney (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) was crowned individual champion, winning by three strokes with a two-round score of 161.  She fired a 77 on Tuesday, the low round of the tournament.  There was a three-way tie for second place among Central Connecticut State's Sue Gleeson (Petersborough, Ontario/St. Peter's Secondary), who held a two-stroke lead entering second round play, St. Francis (PA)'s Tarah Schloss (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg) and teammate Megan Schaeffer (Richland, PA/Eastern Lebanon).  Each of the three players carded a 164 over the two rounds.

All five St. Francis (PA) competitors were selected to the ten-player all-conference team at the conclusion of the tournament.  Besides the aforementioned top-four finishers, other players named all-NEC were St. Francis (PA)'s Kaci Daniels (Port Allegany, PA/Port Allegany) (fifth place; 165), Long Island's Shauna Wilde (Mississauga, Ontario/Clarkson Secondary) (sixth; 166) and Erica Chong (Hilo, HA/Hilo) (seventh; 167), Central Connecticut State's Leah Steinmiller (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) (eighth; 168) and St. Francis (PA)'s Mary Kate Williams (Somerville, NJ/Immaculata) (ninth; 170) and Katie Thorne (Bracebridge, Ontario/Bracebridge & Muskoka Lakes) (tenth; 171), who was the 2003 individual champion.

St. Francis (PA) head coach Darrell Jones was tabbed NEC Coach of the Year for the second straight season in a vote by his peers at the conclusion of the event.
