Brooklyn, NY -- Long Island senior Richard James (Portland, Jamaica) qualified for the Jamaican Olympic team in the 4x400-meter relay and sophomore Bryan Steele (Gaithersburg, MD) made the Under-23 squad in the 400-meter hurdles.
James ran 45.80 seconds in the 400-meter dash final at the Jamaican Olympic trials last month, helping him earn this berth. The 13-time Northeast Conference champion bested some of the elite names in Jamaican track & field to grab this honor.
The Olympics will be held in Athens, Greece from August 13-29.
Steele (pictured right), who advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 400-meter hurdles, made the team by running 50.77 in the semifinals. It was the latest honor for Steele, who was a three-time NEC champion this season and was tabbed LIU Co-Athlete of the Year.
