St. Francis (PA) Captures 2005 NEC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Crown

Emmitsburg, MD -- St. Francis University won the 2005 Northeast Conference Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Mount St. Mary’s University at the Morgan Track in Emmitsburg, Md., on Sunday. St. Francis (Pa.) won its second title in the past three years.

St. Francis (Pa.) finished with 145 points, 16 ahead of second-place Robert Morris (129). Monmouth (119), Mount St. Mary’s (94), Long Island (88), Fairleigh Dickinson (73), Sacred Heart (67), Quinnipiac (33), St. Francis (N.Y.) (31), Wagner (25.5) and Central Connecticut State (13.5) round out the field.

Long Island freshman Aisha Thomas (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City) earned 2005 Most Valuable Performer, the 2005 Outstanding Track Performer and the 2005 Rookie of the Meet honors after winning both the 100m dash and the 200m dash. Thomas won the 100m dash on Sunday with a time of 11.66s after setting the conference record in the event in the preliminaries. She won the 200m dash with a time of 23.79s. She also helped the Long Island 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams to second-place finishes.

Robert Morris senior Nicole Downing (New Castle, Pa./Laurel) earned 2005 Outstanding Field Performer honors after winning the hammer throw with a conference record toss of 55.79m while finishing second in the shot put (13.67m) and second in the javelin (43.43m).

St. Francis (Pa.) senior Bridget Campbell (Carrollton, Ohio/Carrollton) started the day by winning the 3000m steeplechase with a conference-record time of 11:01.84. Kaitlyn Gwyther (Madison, N.H./Kennett) won the 1500m run (4:36.82) while Mount St. Mary’s junior Shannon Norris (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) won the 100m hurdles (14.22). Renay McPherson (New York, N.Y./Samuel J. Tilden) took home the 400m dash honors with a time of 55.03 while Erika Jacobs (Toronto, Ont./West Hill Collegiate) won the 800m (2:11.73). Long Island’s N’Kelle Anderson (Forestville, Md./Largo) won the 400m hurdles (1:01.09) while Monmouth junior Katina Alexander (Pleasantville, N.J./Pleasantville) won the 5000m run (17:47.25). Courtney Lenart (Leetsdale, Pa./Quaker Valley) of Robert Morris won the javelin with a conference-record throw of 46.14m while teammate Christina Roadman (Connellsville, Pa./Connellsville) won the discus with a conference record toss of 46.08m. Linda Dolansky (Rahway, N.J./Union Catholic) won the high jump (1.64m) while Robert Morris sophomore Brittany Humphress (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Falls) won the triple jump (11.65m).

Mount St. Mary’s won the 4x100m relay with a time of 47.34s while Monmouth captured the 4x400m relay (3:47.22).

St. Francis (Pa.) head coach Scott Catone was named the NEC Women’s Coach of the Year.
