Teaneck, NJ -- Fairleigh Dickinson University head men’s soccer coach Seth Roland was named head coach of the men’s open soccer team, which will compete in the 18th World Maccabiah Games this July 13-23 in Israel.
This trip marks the seventh time Roland has represented the United States in the World Games, with his most notable playing achievement coming in 1981, as the leading scorer on the silver medal-winning US team, and his coaching highlight in 1993, when he coached the US team to the bronze medal.
At FDU, Roland has led the Knights to five Northeast Conference Championships in the past nine years. He has guided the Knights to five NCAA tournament bids, including the 2001 NCAA tournament, when FDU advanced to the NCAA Division I Elite Eight.
The Maccabiah Games are held every four years in Israel, attracting the most outstanding Jewish athletes from around the world. As one of the largest elite athletic competitions, the Maccabiah Games have grown to include over 7,000 athletes participating from over 50 countries, making it the third largest sporting event in the world. This coming summer, over 60 countries will send contingents to the 18th Maccabiah.
“It’s an honor to represent the US in international soccer competition,” said Roland. “I’m very excited about our team, which consists of four outstanding ACC players, a number of other Division I All-Region and All-Conference players, and a few current professional players. With this group of young men, we hope to compete for the Gold Medal on July 22.”
