The quarterfinal round of the 2010 Northeast Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament went just the way the seeding predicted. Although they all prevailed, each of the top four seeds were given somewhat of a scare on their home courts. Only No. 3 Mount St. Mary’s was able to create some late separation and post a double-digit margin of victory. Behind 14 points off the bench from Will Holland the Mount defeated No. 6 Saint Francis (PA) and will head to Robert Morris for a semifinal matchup Sunday. Seeded second, RMU was up only one, 60-59, with under 3:00 to play, but NEC Rookie of the Year Karon Abraham came up big. The first-year Colonial hit back-to-back threes as RMU closed the game with an 11-4 spurt. Top-seeded Quinnipiac survived a scare from No. 8 Monmouth. The Bobcats received a game-high 23 points from James Johnson and pulled out an 84-75 victory at home where they will next welcome No. 4 Long Island. LIU bounced back from an early double-digit deficit and hung on for a 63-61 win over No. 5 Fairleigh Dickinson. The Blackbirds will head to Hamden on Sunday to face Quinnipiac in a game to be televised live on MSG and FCS beginning at 2:00 pm.
