New Britain, CT -- The College Swimming Coaches Association of America named the Central Connecticut swimming and diving team a Scholar All-America Team on Thursday July 21. Also being recognized was sophomore Taylor Friedmann who earned an individual Scholar All-America Award.
The Blue Devils qualified for the award by finishing the 2010-11 academic year with a cumulative grade point average above 3.00 on a 4.0 scale. Coach Bill Ball’s squad finished this past year with a 3.09 grade point average.
Friedmann’s individual honor is the result of her outstanding performance in the pool and the classroom. To qualify for an individual honor swimmers must post a grade point average above 3.5 and meet the NCAA "B" Qualifying standard. Friedmann reached that mark with her 4:50.57 performance in the 500 free at the 2011 Northeast Conference Championship. In the classroom, she posted a 3.7 gpa.
Friedmann and the Blue Devils will return to the pool for the 2011-12 season in early October.
