FDU's Jacob Lissek to Participate in 2013 World Maccabiah Games

3/13/2013

Philadelphia, PA -- Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer standout Jacob Lissek will compete for the United States in the 19th World Maccabiah Games, which are scheduled to take place in Israel, July 2013.

Lissek, who will be a senior goalkeeper for the Knights in 2013, is coming off a tremendous year in 2012, after posting a record of 11-4-6. He played in 22 out of 23 possible matches and made 20 starts while recording 10 clean sheets for the second-most shutouts in single-season history, which tied him for the most in program history with 21. Lissek made 62 saves and posted a goals-against average of 0.93.

“This is a great honor for Jacob and should be an amazing experience for him, both athletically and culturally,” Head Coach Seth Roland said. “He will have the opportunity to compete at the international level with 20 other national teams, as well as be able to connect in a profound way with his roots.”

Roland is no stranger to the World Maccabiah games, playing four times and coaching three more from 1977-2009. He was the leading scorer on the 1981 silver medal team and coached the 1993 squad to the bronze medal.

“My experiences in the World Maccabiah Games helped shaped me personally and athletically,” Roland said. “I am excited Jacob will have that opportunity this summer.”
