Nassau, Bahamas - LIU Brooklyn rising senior
Delano Davis took part in the Bahamas Association of Athletics' Associations (BAAA) Senior National Track & Field Championships this past weekend at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium. Davis, who earned Second Team All-America honors as part of the Blackbirds' 4x100-meter relay team earlier in June, won the Flight B 100-meter dash in a time of 10.65.
Competing in the fourth of five heats in the preliminary round, Davis finished second in a time of 10.67. Unfortunately, the meet advanced the top eight overall times to the open finals and Davis' time ranked 10th out of 25 competitors. Later in the evening, Davis shaved two-hundredths of a second off his preliminary heat time to win the Flight B race by nearly two-tenths of a second. The top finishers in the open races earned spots on the country's 2016 Olympic team.
Davis, who finished second in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash at 2016 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, has previously competed for the Bahamas at the youth level. He won a bronze medal at the 2011 Pan American Junior Championships as part of the 4x100-meter relay team and most recently won bronze as a member of the relay team at the 2012 Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships.
