New Britain, CT -- Wagner is bringing the 2019 Men’s Cross Country Championship back home to the hill for the first time in NEC history with five runners landing in the top-20.

Wagner sophomore Trausti Thorstein (Reykjavik, Iceland/Universal School), last year's individual champion, led the Seahawks to the title, finishing strong to take second, just 1.5 seconds off the pace in 25:20.5 over 8K. He was named the NEC Outstanding Performer for his efforts. Following shortly behind him was Roberto Guidicipietro (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea), finishing fourth in 25:45.0 and Jonathan Besselink (Kingston, Ontario/Holy Cross Catholic), who rounded out the top-five with a time of 25:46.0. William Cuthbertson (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner) and Nick Velez (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea) were the fourth and fifth harriers to cross the line for the Seahawks and seal the title for the Seahawks.

Wagner finished with 43 points, seven ahead of runner-up CCSU.

After taking three-of-eight NEC Athlete of the Week awards this fall, Central Connecticut senior Roberto Piotto (Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury) claimed the individual championship after leading the race from start to finish. He crossed the tape in 25:19.0. Four-time NEC Rookie of the Week Elias Field (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) was named the NEC Freshman of the Year, finishing seventh with a time of 25:57.5.
