New Britain, CT -- Central Connecticut had no plans to relinquish its NEC women's cross country crown.

Placing five runners in the top-15 for the second year in a row, the Blue Devils were a convincing winner at the 2019 NEC Women's Cross Country Championships held on their home course at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain. It marked the fourth NEC title for the Blue Devils in program history.

Three-time NEC Athlete of the Week Angie Rafter (Danielson, CT/Killingly) claimed the NEC individual title and NEC Outstanding Performer honor for the second year in a row, clocking in at 17:28.5 over the 5K course, nearly twenty seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Following closely behind Rafter was teammate Megan Brawner (Gales Ferry, CT/Ledyard), a junior who finished third overall with a time of 17:56.6. Sophomores Ashley Dana (Durham, CT/Coginchaug) and Kaitlyn Stevens (Killingly, CT/Killingly) clocked in at 18:19.9 and 18:22.8 for ninth and tenth place finishes, respectively. Rounding out the top-five for the Blue Devils was  2019 NEC Rookie of the Year Brooke Morabito (New Milford, CT/New Milford), who crossed the line fifteenth, clocking in at 18:43.5 as the top freshman finisher.

The CCSU women tallied 38 point, a whopping 33 ahead of runner-up Sacred Heart.

Jacqueline Thorne (Northport, NY/Northport) paved the way the Pioneers' with a sixth-place finish, clocking in at 18:11.6. The Pioneers placed three more runners in the top-20 to end with 71 points.

Last year's runner up Saint Francis U finished third with 85 points. Senior Laura Roth (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) led the Red Flash, garnering a seventh place finish in 18:15.4.

Mount St. Mary's graduate student Erin Jaskot (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) took the silver medal, crossing the finish line in 17:47.2 to boost Mount to a fourth place showing. 

Merrimack junior Kate Fisher (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North) posted an 18:10.7 in Merrimack's first NEC Cross Country Championship. She finished fifth in the individual standings to help the Warriors also land in  fifth in the team competition.

Bryant took the sixth spot, followed by Wagner and Fairleigh Dickinson in sixth and seventh place. Robert Morris, St. Francis Brooklyn and LIU rounded out the standings in ninth, tenth, and eleventh, respectively.
