NEC WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mariana Jaleca, Saint Francis U
R-Jr., MF/F, Sebtubal, Portgual

Jaleca scored both her team's goals in Saint Francis U's season-opening 2-2 tie at UMBC on Sunday. Jaleca took five of six shots on goal by the Red Flash. The Portuguese redshirt junior netted her first goal of the game in the 36th minute to slice a 2-0 deficit in half. She tallied her second goal to tie it up in the 62nd minute with a one-touch curler over the goalie’s head with an assist from Emilee Barnett. 

NEC WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Amanda McQuillan, CCSU
So., GK, Johnstown County Meath, Ireland/Beaufort College

In her debut for the defending NEC champion and preseason favorite Blue Devils, McQuillan was crucial in taking No. 19 Rutgers into overtime before succumbing, 2-1. McQuillan totaled nine saves against the Scarlet Knights, who were tabbed second in the Big Ten preseason poll. She managed to hold the Scarlett Knights off the board until yielding a penalty kick in the 70th minute

NEC WOMEN'S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Sheridan Reid, Robert Morris
Fr., MF/F, Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill

Reid scored the first goal of her collegiate career to help Robert Morris tie Purdue Fort Wayne, 1-1, in her second career match. Her equalizer came in the 79th minute when she was able to sneak through the defensive line and find the back of the net off a feed from freshman attacker Kayla Veloso-Lima.

Bryant junior goalkeeper Meghan Dalton (West Hartford, CT/Kingswood Oxford School) made nine saves in Bryant’s 2-1 season-opening win over Iona.

Central Connecticut sophomore midfielder Roma McLaughlin (Greencastle County Donegal, Ireland/Moville CC) scored for the Blue Devils against #19 Rutgers on CCSU’s first shot of the game.

Fairleigh Dickinson junior forward Sofia Albertsson (Stockholm, Sweden/Bromma Gymnasium) led the Knights in their 6-1 victory over Alabama St. with a pair of goals.

Fairleigh Dickinson sophomore midfielder Lea Egner (Oberboihingen, Germany/Johann-Friedrich-Vonna-Cotta) tallied an assist against Alabama State and a goal vs. Miami (FL).

Robert Morris junior goalkeeper Sydney Bruckner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) stopped seven shots in the Colonials’ opener vs. Bucknell. Bruckner also entered at the half in the Colonials’ game against Purdue Fort Wayne and shut down the Mastadons, making a pair of key saves late to preserve a 1-1 tie.

Wagner senior forward Maria Nunez (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) notched two goals as part of a 5-0 win over Delaware State in the Green & White’s home opener. She became the first Seahawk since 2016 to score multiple goals in one game.
 
AROUND THE NEC

Defending NEC champion Central Connecticut gave #19 Rutgers all it could handle before falling in overtime, 2-1, on Thursday. The Blue Devils’ Roma McLaughlin scored an early goal in the 12th minute and held on to the lead until a 70th minute PK by the Scarlet Knights.

In its first DI game as a member of the NEC, Merrimack fell to Hartford, 1-0, before nearly 600 fans at Martone-Mejail Field.
