NEC MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chris Capaldo, LIU

One of 19 newcomers on a yound squad, Capaldo helped LIU to two road victories against Old Dominion and VCU over the weekend. The junior midfielder assisted on the game-tying goal in the 82nd minute of the Sharks’ 2-1 win over an ODU team picked third in the C-USA preseason poll on Friday night. In the 56th minute against preseason A-10 favorite VCU on Monday, LIU took a corner kick which ended up on the feet of Capaldo who found the back of the net for the lone goal of the contest.
NEC MEN'S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Callum James, St. Francis Brooklyn
Fr., GK, Swansea, Wales/Cwmtawe Community School
James began his collegiate career with back-to-back shutouts in two wins for St. Francis Brooklyn. The freshman goalkeeper first made two saves in a 1-0 win over Stony Brook at home. James then followed that up with four saves in a 3-0 win over La Salle, to help the Terriers start 2-0 on the season.

- LIU junior midfielder Chris Capaldo (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) tallied one goal and one assist in two wins for the Sharks.
- St. Francis Brooklyn freshman goalkeeper Callum James (Swansea, Wales/Cwmtawe Community School) recorded back-to-back shutouts in the first two games of his collegiate career.
- Mount St. Mary’s sophomore forward Yann Kouemi (Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire/Watkins Mill) scored once to tie the game at 1-1 against Winthrop and had four shots on goal in the 4-3 victory.
- Merrimack sophomore forward Tola Showunmi (London, England/Highlands Secondary School) scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win at Northeastern.
- LIU freshman forward Papa Ndoye (Mbour, Senegal/Mbour) scored the match-winning goal in the 86th minute of LIU’s season opening win at Old Dominion. The goal was the first of Ndoye’s collegiate career.
- Mount St. Mary’s freshman midfielder Juan Molina (Gaithersburg, MD/St. Andrews Episcopal) tied the game up, 3-3, against Winthrop with a free kick in the 82nd minute of a 4-3 Mountaineers win.
- Merrimack freshman defender Marc Torellas (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Pia Sarria) scored his first career goal and first Division I goal in the history of the Warriors’ men’s soccer program against Northeastern.
AROUND THE NEC
- Merrimack defeated Northeastern, 2-1, in the program’s division one debut.
- LIU got the program's first two wins as the Sharks, having defeated Old Dominion and VCU.
