Plainville, MA - It happened about four months late, but it was worth the wait.
Central Connecticut captured its third consecutive Northeast Conference women’s cross-country crown at the rescheduled annual meet on Sunday, February 28. The championship event was moved from the fall season due to challenges presented by the COVID pandemic.
All five CCSU scorers cracked the Top 15 with second-year Blue Devil Ashley Dana winning the 5K race at Heather Hill Country Club in Plainville, MA.
Dana completed the course in 17:35.50, finishing one-half step in front of Central Connecticut teammate Angie Rafter who entered as the two-time defending individual champion. Settling for runner-up honors this time around, the heavily-decorated Rafter ran 17:35.60.
Mount St. Mary’s earned a second-place team finish that was spearheaded by Theresa Long, who ran the race in 18:00.80 to take third on the individual leader board.
CCSU freshman Juliana Cancellieri claimed the NEC Most Outstanding Rookie Performer award after finishing in 14th place overall.
