Bridgewater, NJ – Saint Francis U head football head coach
Chris Villarrial was named one of 16 finalists for the 2022 Eddie Robinson Award, Stats Perform/The Analyst announced on Monday.
The Eddie Robinson Award, which is in its 36th season, is presented to the national coach of the year in the FCS. National media will select the winner, to be announced on Dec. 8, and the winner will be honored at the FCS National Awards banquet on Jan. 7 in Frisco, TX.
In his 12th season as head coach of Saint Francis, excluding the canceled 2020 season, Villarrial led the Red Flash to the program's second Northeast Conference regular season title. He piloted Saint Francis U to the program's first-ever undefeated conference slate (9-2, 7-0 NEC), which marked the ninth perfect record in NEC history.
Villarrial is the winningest coach in program history. His 61 wins are 16 more than second-ranked Art Martynuska (45 wins) and 36 more than third-ranked Frank Pergolizzi's (25). The 2022 Saint Francis U team has the most wins in Division I program history, while the Red Flash's current nine-game winning streak is tied for the longest in program history.
Saint Francis U returns to the field for its second appearance in the FCS playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 26 against No. 23 Delaware at 2 pm.
