Birmingham, AL -- It was an opportunity for the NEC's top-ranked triple jumper to make a name for himself under the national spotlight, and FDU's Salif Mane didn't disappoint.
The sophomore from the Bronx achieved first team All-America accolades after he finished seventh at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Saturday afternoon.
Mane secured All-America status with a leap of 16.16m. He recorded a 16.09m mark on both his first and third attempts and cleared 16.11m mark on his fourth attempt, before finally hitting his longest jump of the meet on his final attempt.
Mane became the first Knight since to earn All-America honors since Sam Chelanga did so in the 5,000 meters back in 2007. He's also the program's first ever All-America triple jumper.
Mane can lay claim to being the ninth NEC performer to collect All-America plaudits and the first since LIU's Brendon Rodney in 2016.
Mane set the school indoor triple jump record and NEC Indoor Championship meet record with a leap of 16.29m last month. He was selected as the Most Outstanding Field Performer in jumps and was tabbed the Co-Most Valuable Performer.
Mane's 16.29m jump ranks ninth in the nation this season.
Thoughts from Coach Sharlene Milwood-Lee
"Very proud of what Salif has accomplished this indoor season. He is the epitome of hard work, and what it means to be a Knight. It was not his best day jumping, but he was still able to garner that All-American status. Our staff as a whole did an amazing job getting Salif ready. It's a great day to be a Knight!"
