Jacksonville, FL — Seven Northeast Conference (NEC) track and field student-athletes will compete in the NCAA East Region Preliminaries, beginning on Wednesday.

The road to the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships begins in Jacksonville, FL at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida. The four-day competition begins on at 10 am Wednesday, May 24 with the men’s hammer throw and concludes at 8:45 pm on Saturday, May 27 with the women’s 4x400m relay.

The top 48 declared student-athletes were accepted into the preliminary competitions for each individual event.

The top 12 performers in each event will qualify for the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships from June 7-10 in Austin, TX at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The event will be held on the campus of the University of Texas.

Senior jumper Madeline Murphy is the league’s lone female representative,

Saint Francis U junior Ardonntrell Williams will be the first athlete to compete on Wednesday when he takes part in the first round of the 110m hurdles at 6 pm. The Voorhees, NJ native came in first place in the event at the NEC Outdoor Championships earlier this month with a time of 13.83. That mark qualified him for the NCAA Regionals for the second time in his career

Joining Williams from Saint Francis U as the league’s lone female competitor is senior Madeline Murphy, the 2023 Most Outstanding Field Performer in the jumps after she struck gold in both the long jump and the triple jump. A native of Cresson, PA, Murphy also broke the NEC Championship record and qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the triple jump with a leap of 12.69m. Murphy is slated to take the field on Saturday at 6 pm.

FDU will be sending three field performers to the Sunshine State, including a pair of jumpers in Salif Mane and Taeco O’Garro.

Mane put together another star-studded performance at the NEC Championships after he took top billing in both the long jump and the triple jump. The senior, who was tabbed the Most Valuable Performer and the NEC Most Outstanding Field Performer in the jumps for the second time in as many seasons at the conclusion of the Championships, broke the meet record in the long jump with a leap of 7.74m. A native of the Bronx, Mane is ranked seeded 15th in the long jump, while his triple jump mark of 16.54m, which was set back in April at the Virginia Challenge, is good for the No. 5 seed.

Joining Mane in the triple jump is classmate O'Garro, who took runner-up honors at the NEC Championships after hitting the sand in 15.66m. The Saint John’s, Antigua native qualified for the NCAA Regionals after landing a jump of 15.80m at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in March.

Also competing in the horizontal jumps is St. Francis Brooklyn’s Malachi Aiken. A sophomore from Brooklyn, he landed on the podium in both the long jump and the triple jump at the NEC Championships with respective third-place finishes. Aiken posted a season-best mark in the long jump at the Towson Spring Opener (7.51m), while his top triple jump mark came earlier this month at the IC4A Track and Field Championships (15.30m).
