Eugene, OR -- The NEC's most accomplished student-athlete from the 2022-23 academic year left a lasting impression on Friday with another remarkable performance on the national stage.

Competing for the first time at the Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships, FDU junior Salif Mane (Bronx, NY/Bronx High School for Medical Science (Lincoln University (MO))) finished fourth in the triple jump at fabled Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

With his outstanding effort, the four-time NCAA All-American qualified as an alternate for Team USA at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. Additionally, he will be competing in the biennial NACAC U23 Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica from July 21-23.

Mane uncorked a 16.44 meter (53' 11 1/4") jump on his first attempt, his best mark over six rounds of competition. He stood fourth after the first round and held onto the spot throughout the competition.

Outperforming a number of his NCAA rivals, Salif emerged as the top collegian among the 16-jumper field, which included nine college performers. Notably, he finished ahead of Miami's Russell Robinson (sixth, 16.36m) and Florida's Sean Dixon-Bodie (seventh, 16.31), who took second and fourth, respectively, at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships last month. Mane finished fifth in the nation at NCAA Outdoors following a second place showing at the NCAA Indoor meet in March.

Mane fouled on his second and third attempts on Friday evening before a 16.17 mark in his fourth jump. He passed on his fifth attempt. Needing a PR to move into the top-three, Mane fouled in the final round.

The top three finishers were all 30+ year old performers with Olympic and World Championship experience.

Donald Scott won the event for the third time in his career with a World qualifying 17.22 mark on his fourth attempt.

Will Claye (16.98) and Chris Benard (16.68) finished second and third, respectively.

Mane holds the NEC record with three first team All-America honors over the course of his career. His four overall All-America accolades ranks second behind former LIU sprinter and future Olympian Brendon Rodney, who was a seven-time All-American from 2013-16.

Mane achieved first team All-American status in the triple jump at the 2023 NCAA outdoor meet, a year after picking up second team honors. He's also a two-time first team indoor All-American, having finished seventh in 2022 and second in 2023 when he uncorked a personal-best 16.79 meter jump.

Mane was recognized as the meet MVP at the 2023 NEC Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships and was also the Most Outstanding Field Performer (Jumps) at both meets.
