Bridgewater, NJ — Merrimack sophomore
Donovan Wadley (Newark, NJ/Weequahic) added another feather to his cap in 2023, as the reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Offensive Player of the Year was named a Walter Camp Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-American.
Twenty-seven players from 21 different schools and eight conferences are represented on the 2023 Walter Camp FCS All-America team. The team is voted on by the FCS sports information directors and administered by the Walter Camp Foundation.
While he did a fair amount receiving and rushing the ball, he did most of his damage returning the football.
The Newark, NJ product returned a nation-best three kickoffs for touchdowns, while his 645 kickoff return yards, which are the most by a conference player in nearly half a decade, are good for third in the FCS. Three of the longest kickoff returns on the FCS charts this season have Wadley’s name inked next to them, as he is the only specialist in the entire nation to have three returns of 90-or-more yards.
Wadley is currently the FCS's statistical leader in yards per kickoff return with an average of 37.9 yards.
Last month, Wadley highlighted a list of four NEC standouts when he was named a First Team All-American return specialist by Stats Perform. He was also named an FCS Football Central First Team All-American in December.
Wadley, who became the Warriors' first-ever NEC major award winner back in November, was also selected to the All-NEC First Team twice as both a wide receiver and a return specialist.
