Somerset, NJ -- With today's seeding announcement, the brackets have been finalized for the 2024 Northeast Conference (NEC) Tennis Championships, which commence on Friday, April 12 at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, NJ.
The Sacred Heart women and Binghamton men were named the #1 seeds.
The tournament will be contested over three days in a single elimination format.
This marks the 23rd consecutive year the NEC Championship will be contested at the award winning Mercer facility.
Earning the top seed for the first time in program history, Sacred Heart will take aim at the program's first-ever NEC crown. The Pioneers culminated the regular season with a 16-3 overall mark and boasted a perfect 7-0 record against conference rivals. SHU racked up a host of non-league wins, including notable victories against Providence, Saint Joseph's, URI, Fairfield and Stony Brook. Last spring, SHU reached the conference final for the first time, dropping a 4-0 decision to LIU. The defending champion Sharks claimed the second seed and will look to secure their sixth NEC crown in seven years and eighth overall. Sacred Heart handed LIU its sole conference setback in a closely contested 4-3 victory on March 23. Eyeing its first NEC championship, Saint Francis U was slotted third following a 4-1 NEC campaign, while six-time conference champion FDU was seeded fourth.

The top-seeded Bearcats wrapped the regular season with a 7-1 NEC mark and picked up non-conference triumphs against the likes of Army, Colgate, Marist and Duquesne. Binghamton could face a formidable adversary in FDU, which has won a record 14 NEC championships, the most recent coming in 2022. The Knights were the only team to knock off Binghamton in the regular season, winning 5-2 on February 25. In a season marked by incredible parity, Saint Francis U (#3), LIU (#4) and Le Moyne (#5) all harbor hopes of hoisting the NEC trophy for the first time on Sunday. SFU suffered just one conference defeat, a a narrow 4-3 setback to Binghamton, and was seeded third. LIU pushed both Binghamton and FDU to the limit in 4-3 losses, while first year NEC member Le Moyne was the only conference team to beat FDU this season.
