West Windsor, NJ -- In a marathon day that lasted nearly 16 hours, with play bouncing between indoor and outdoor action, the semifinals were set for the 2024 Northeast Conference Tennis Championships.

Each of the top four women's seeds and three of the top four men's seeds survived the quarterfinal round with the Le Moyne men springing the lone upset in their NEC Tournament debut.

The three-day event marks the 23rd straight year the tournament is being contested at the award-winning Mercer County Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ.

The day opened with No. 9 Merrimack winning four-of-five singles matches to clinch the first round victory over No. 8 seed Binghamton, 4-2. It was Merrimack's first-ever NEC Tournament victory and earned the Warriors a date with top-seeded Sacred Heart in the quarterfinals later that evening. The Pioneers would go on to defeat Merrimack, 4-0, but the Warriors didn't go down without a fight. SHU's Vitalina Golod, Flavia Rambaldi and Olivia Kharkover all claimed straight set wins for the Pios. Defending champion LIU continued its tournament dominance. The No. 2 seed Sharks defeated seventh-seeded Stonehill, 4-0, to secure their spot in the semifinals for the seventh consecutive season. LIU's top three singles players all won in dominant fashion with Leo Boisseau (6-2, 6-4), Saki Oyama (6-2, 6-1) and Lucy Garrigues (6-1, 6-0) earning straight set victories in the shutout.

In similar fashion, third-seeded Saint Francis U took down No. 6 Wagner, 4-0. The Red Flash won two doubles matches 6-0 to earn a point. Up 2-0, Reagan Mangan won a nailbiter (7-5, 6-4) and Kelly Dowuona recorded a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win. It marked the first time since 2017 that the Red Flash have advanced to the semifinals, setting up a match up with the defending champion Sharks. Playing in its home state, fourth-seeded seed FDU shutout fifth-seeded Le Moyne, 4-0. The Knights recorded identical 6-2 victories to clinch the doubles point, while their #3, #4 and #5 singles players helped secure FDU's 16th consecutive semifinal appearance. Mireia Turro (6-3, 6-3), Namie Isago (6-2, 6-3) and Valentina Silva (6-3, 6-2) all won their matches in straight sets. The Knights will look to take down the top-seeded Pioneers on Semifinal Saturday.

In opening round play for the men, No. 8 seed Stonehill came back from down 3-2 to clinch its first-ever NEC postseason win over ninth-seeded Wagner, 4-3, courtesy of #5 singles player Louis Coppi, who forced a third set and won 5-2, 7-5, 6-2. The Skyhawks went on to face NEC tennis newcomer and top-seeded Binghamton in the last match of the day. The Bearcats defeated Stonehill in a 4-0 shutout to secure a spot in the semifinals. Wining in singles for the Bearcats were Ronal Lotlikar (6-3, 6-1), Kyle Weekes (6-1, 6-1) and James McPherson (6-4, 6-1). Perennial NEC tennis powerhouse FDU clinched its 18th straight semifinal appearance after defeating seventh-seeded Merrimack, 4-0. The No. 2 seed Knights registered wins in their #3, #4 and #5 singles, all in straight sets. Thomas Linley dominated from the #3 spot winning his sets 6-0 and 6-0. Taurus Mickus and Gryffin Minor left little doubt in their matches, as well, earning victories 6-0, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-3, respectively.

In an absolute nailbiter of a match between third-seeded Saint Francis U and No. 5 Sacred Heart, the Red Flash prevailed in dramatic fashion. The Pioneers started out strong, earning the doubles point after winning two matches 6-4 and 6-3. SFU won four-of-five in singles play, highlighted by thrilling wins by Tyler Nguyen, who won in #2 singles 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), and Kevin Kruzel, who won in #5 singles 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-3. SFU and FDU will face off in the semis on Saturday. In its first-ever NEC Tournament, fifth-seeded Le Moyne made history defeating No. 4 seed LIU, 4-2. It was back-an-forth from the start of doubles play but the match-clinching victory came in #4 singles as Kacper Piekarek won with 7-5, 6-0 scores. The Dolphins will play No. 1 seed Binghamton in Saturday's second semifinal match.

Action begins on Saturday with the two women’s semifinal matches and the men’s semis will follow. The times of the matches will be determined in the morning.

The men’s and women’s title matches will culminate the three day tournament on Championship Sunday. The two winners will go on to represent the NEC in the NCAA Tournament.
