Bryant:The Bulldogs dropped their final dual meet of the first semester, 178-102, to URI on Saturday.
Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, MA/Barnstable) won three events in a meet for the third time this season, claiming the 100 back, 50 free and 100 free. Abby Whittaker (Salisbury, MA/Saint Thomas Aquinas) put forth a strong performance as well. The senior was a member of the victorious 200 medley relay team and then swam season-bests in the 1000 free and the 200 fly, finishing third in the 200. Taylor DeBever (Denver, CO/Regis Jesuit), also a participant at last week’s U.S. Nationals, won the 200 back for the second time this season. Mara Valenzuela (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) (50,100 free), Molly Smith (Belmont, MA/Belmont) (1000 free, 200 breast), Brianne Dwyer (Hicksville, NY/Saint Anthony’s)(100 breast) and Kaitlin Buckley (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) (100 fly) all earned top-three finishes. Caitlin Hanahoe (Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie), Amy D’Olympia (Mattapoisett, MA/Bishop Stang), Valenzuela and DeBever helped the 200 free relay to a second-place finish. Bryant resumes January 14 when they take on NEC foe St. Francis (NY).
Central Connecticut: CCSU will swim again in 2012 when they take on Vermont at home for Senior Day on January 9.
Mount St. Mary’s: Mount St. Mary’s is out of the pool until 2012 when they return to action at Duquesne on January 21.
Sacred Heart: The Pioneers were led by freshman Malvina Reinhold (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasium) who captured first in the 200 free (1:58.80) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.73) as well as a third place finish in the 100 yard freestyle (56.33). Junior Stephanie Walters (Wanaque, NY/Lakeland) also added a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.77. The Pioneers will swim again on January 28 at Western Connecticut.
St. Francis (NY): The Terriers will next swim January 14 against TCNJ and NEC Rival Bryant.
Saint Francis (PA): The Red Flash resumes its season on Jan. 14 when Youngstown State visits Loretto for a 1 pm meet.
