Team-By-Team Notes
Bryant: Bryant finished tied for fourth at the Copa Coqui meet in Puerto Rico. The Bulldogs faced off against Southern Illinois University, University of Connecticut, South Dakota, Illinois State, the United States Military Academy and two teams from Puerto Rico. Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, MA/Barnstable) won the 100 meter back and finished second in the 50 meter free. Molly Smith (Belmont, MA/Belmont) finished sixth in the 100 meter breast and eighth in the 200 meter IM. Taylor DeBever (Denver, CO/Regis Jesuit) seventh in the 100 meter free and eighth in the 100 meter back. The Bulldogs have been keeping a blog reflecting on their time in Puerto Rico which can be found here. Bryant is back in action this weekend with a meet against NEC-foe St. Francis (NY).
Central Connecticut: The Blue Devils claimed victories in 12 of the 16 events at the dual-meet competition against Vermont. Helene Neuhaus (Westport, CT/Staples) collected three first place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyle (25:06 and 53:41) and in the 100-yard backstroke (58:89). Senior Alex Czaplicki (North Haven, CT/North Haven) cruised to a new Blue Devil record in the 400 yard IM posting a time of 4:33.37, shattering Kristen Jurzynski’s six-year old 4:35.05 record. On the boards Madison Vestergaard (Middletown, CT/Middletown) picked up a first and second place finish in the three and one-meter events, respectively. The Blue Devils will travel to Florida International this weekend for a tri-meet with FIU and American.
Mount St. Mary’s: Sophomore Cat Coppler (Enfield, CT/Enrico Fermi) posted three top seven finishes to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's swimming team to a third-place standing at the Citrus Invitational on Saturday. Coppler finished second in the 100 back (1:00.60) for the squad's only top-three standing at the competition. The sophomore also finished fifth in the 400 IM (4:46.01) and sixth in the 50 free (25.45). Junior Courtney Griffith (Westminster, MD/Westminster) posted a pair of top-six finishes after placing fifth in the 100 fly (59.86) and sixth in the 100 free (54.89). Mount St. Mary's, who is currently on its training trip in Arizona, returns to action at Duquesne on Jan. 21. Meet starts at 1 p.m
Sacred Heart: The Pioneers will swim again on January 28 at Western Connecticut.
St. Francis (NY): The Terriers will next swim January 14th against TCNJ and NEC Rival Bryant.
Saint Francis (PA): The Red Flash resumes its season on Jan. 14 when Youngstown State visits Loretto for a 1 p.m. meet.
Wagner: The Seahawks took on Columbia over the weekend, falling to the Lions 169-88. Wagner’s first gold came in the 12th event of the day, as sophomore Meredith Ketchmark (Plainsboro, NJ / West Windsor-Plainsboro) placed first in the 500 freestyle, edging out Columbia’s Stella Zhao by less than one second, with a time of 5:18.21. The final two events of the day belonged to the Seahawks, as Morgan Stoner (Greensburg, PA / Hempfield Area Senior), Kelsey Thomas (Hammonton, NJ / Holy Spirit) and Breanne Sweeney (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) swept the 200 individual medley, with Stoner’s time of 2:18.08 leading the way. Head coach Colin Shannahan and diving coach Kelly Mohr will host their alma mater’s in the Seahawks’ next meet, when the Green & White welcome the Rhode Island Rams to the Spiro Sports Center on Saturday, January 21.
