Bryant: Bryant split a pair of dual meets over the weekend, defeating the University of Massachusetts, 123.5-119.5, on Friday before falling to Stony Brook, 156-106, on Saturday. On Friday, Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, MA/Barnstable) won three events and Taylor DeBever (Denver, CO/Regis Jesuit), Brianne Dwyer (Hicksville, NY/St. Anthony’s) and Molly Smith (Belmont, MA/Belmont) all notched victories vs. UMass. All three of Ostrander’s victories set pool records and DeBever broke her own pool record in the 500 free. The Bulldogs failed to sweep the weekend on Saturday, falling to the Seawolves. Ostrander won three more events and DeBever and Smith each won an event. Mara Valenzuela (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) earned a pair of third-place finishes on the afternoon.
Central Connecticut: The Blue Devils will next compete with NEC rival Wagner on January 28.
Mount St. Mary’s: Cat Coppler (Enfield, CT/Enrico Fermi) paced the Mount with two first place finishes winning the 200 free (1:58.82) and 200 IM (2:17.97) as the team fell to Duquesne 152-100. Courtney Griffith (Westminster, MD/Westminster) touched the wall first in the 100 fly (1:00.95) while also performing well in the 100 free (55.28) where she picked up a third place finish. Mount St. Mary’s will return to action on February 4 when they host Loyola at 11 a.m.
Sacred Heart: The Pioneers will swim again on January 28 at Western Connecticut.
St. Francis (NY): Jemma Hinkly (West Palm Beach, FL/Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts) and Ella Aiwohi (Haleiwa, HI/ Kahuku) placed first and second in the 50 Yard Freestyle with times of 26.75 and 26.80, respectively. Paige Hardy (Temecula, CA / Chaparral HS) also secured first place in the 1 meter Dive, as she posted a score of 101.60. In the 100 Yard Breaststroke, three Terriers placed in the top-three with Ewelina Gorecka (Kielce, Poland / Sport High School in Raciborz) (1:15.39), Ryenn Lyons (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha) (1:18.21), and Meghan Leotta (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) (1:30.00) leading the way for the Terriers.
Saint Francis (PA): The Red Flash will take to the pool on January 28 when they face Siena.
Wagner: : The Wagner College swimming & diving team took the University of Rhode Island down to the day’s last event on Saturday, but the Rams edged out the Green & White by less than two-tenths of a second to seal a 155-145 win. Wagner kicked off the day strong, taking a solid second place finish in the opening 200 yard medley relay. The team of Breanne Sweeney (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy), Kelsey Thomas (Hammonton, NJ / Holy Spirit), Alanna Gibbons (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Tech), and Samantha Sides (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East) finished the finals heat in 1:52.99 to pick up some opening day points. Sweeney and Sides kept the points coming in the day’s fourth event, as the senior co-captain earned a gold medal in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.02, just ahead of Sides, who finished in third place in 1:02.75. Freshman Lynn Tay (Elk Grove, CA / Bradshaw Christian) flew off the blocks in the 50 yard freestyle, darting to a first place finish in 25.42. Menendez also picked up points, coming in third place in 25.56. Wagner will be in action again on Saturday when they host CCSU for senior day. That meet begins at 2:00 p.m.
