Andrew Alia is in his 28th year with the Northeast Conference and is the second longest-tenured full-time employee in conference history.  Alia was promoted to Associate Commissioner on July 1, 2014 after serving as Assistant Commissioner since July, 2002.  Alia was originally hired as an Administrative Intern in 1998 and was named Assistant Director of Operations one year later.  He was promoted to Director of Operations in July, 2000.

As Associate Commissioner, Alia serves as the NEC’s chief business officer.  He also oversees the NEC’s marketing program including areas such as corporate sponsorship packages and league branding.  Among his other extensive duties include directing the league’s licensing efforts, basketball scheduling, and running select championship events.  In particular, Alia has overseen the growth and development of the NEC’s Corporate Partner program. Among the notable companies that are currently partnered with the NEC include Daktronics, GEICO, Insperity, Provident Bank and W.B. Mason.

Nationally, Alia is a member of the NCAA Honors Committee where he began his 4-year term this past summer.  Previously, he served on the NCAA’s Walter Byers Scholarship Committee from 2011-16 and was chair of the committee for two years.  Alia was also a member of the NCAA Division I Football Issues Committee from 2006-2008 and served as a member of the FCS Eastern Regional Advisory Committee from 2008-2010.  Alia has also been a longtime member of both CABMA and NACMA.  He is currently the NEC’s national representative to NACMA, a role which he also held from 2014-16.

Alia’s internship with the NEC enabled him to complete his master’s degree in Sport Management, which he received from the University of Connecticut in December, 1998.

A native of Saddle Brook, NJ, Alia graduated cum laude from Albright College in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in history and political science. While at Albright, he was a member of both the football and baseball teams, and served as an intern in the Sports Information Department his senior year.

Alia and his wife Catherine reside in North Brunswick, NJ along with their twin boys, Matthew and Cole.
