Liam Plate was named Director of Communications in August, 2023.
In this capacity, Plate will assume the role as the NEC's primary PR contact for field hockey, women's soccer, women's bowling, men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field, men's and women's tennis, and baseball. Additionally, he will serve as a secondary contact for men's and women's basketball.
Beyond his role as a sport contact, Plate will play a pivotal role in executing the conference's social media and digital media initiatives across all platforms, ensuring they align with the NEC's Strategic Plan. He will also serve as the media coordinator for various NEC Championships, produce feature articles and provide support at televised events.
Plate joined the NEC in the newly created role of Director of Communications after a successful stint as a Communications Assistant with the Big East Conference during the 2022-23 academic year.
During his tenure at the Big East, Plate was the primary media relations contact for women’s soccer, women’s lacrosse, and indoor/outdoor track and field, while also serving as the secondary contact for women’s basketball. He oversaw the Big East weekly awards program and handled media coordinator duties at conference championships for his assigned sports. Furthermore, Plate's served as a moderator in media breakout rooms at the NCAA Men's Basketball East Regional at Madison Square Garden.
Adding to his repertoire, Plate showcased his broadcasting abilities as a play-by-play and color commentator for men's and women's soccer on the Big East Digital Network. He also freelanced as a women's basketball announcer for Pace University.
A graduate of Seton Hall University, Plate earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual and Sound Media with a minor in Sports Media in 2022, graduating with cum laude honors. While studying at Seton Hall, Plate took on significant responsibilities at the student-run radio station WSOU, serving as the Sports Web Editor and Assistant News Director. He also assumed a host of responsibilities for Pirate Television, where he served as the Sports Director, and took on roles as a producer and anchor.
Plate's passion for video production led him to intern with Awesome Films Video Agency during his senior year.
