Championship Game Highlights

Norwich, CT
- Bryant’s pitching staff allowed only four runs over the course of three games and the result was a second consecutive NEC Tournament title.

Reliever Trevor Lacosse induced a fly out to rightfielder Jordan Mountford to clinch the conference crown and end a remarkable run by the staff.

In 30 innings, the Bulldogs pitched to an 0.60 ERA. They allowed 21 hits and just two earned runs.

Despite the prime pitching, Bryant had to work extra time against Sacred Heart in Saturday’s championship round.

The Bulldogs plated two runs in the first inning and held a 2-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the eighth.
With Sacred Heart running out of outs, Jayson Sullivan stepped up to the plate (both literally and figuratively).

SHU’s all-NEC outfielder crushed a two-out, two-run bomb over the leftfield fence to pull the Pioneers even at 2-2.

The score remained 2-2 until the top half of the 12th frame.

Bryant’s Jordan Mountford, the 2013 NEC Tournament MVP, led off with a single. AJ Zarzony followed with a rip to third base that was fielded cleanly, but thrown away. The errant throw gave the Bulldogs runners at the corners with no out and their No. 3 hitter Carl Anderson due up.

After intentional walk to Anderson and a 6-2 groundout by John Mullen, Robby Rinn delivered the decisive blow.

Rinn, a first baseman who had one career triple coming into today, yanked a ball over the first base bag and into the rightfield corner to clear the bases and give Bryant a 5-2 lead. The Bulldogs tacked on another run on a base hit by Buck McCarthy.

Reliever James Cooksey, who did not allow a run in his first 8.0 innings of NEC Tournament play, took the loss for Sacred Heart. He threw 5.1 innings of out the bullpen on Saturday, allowing five hits and four runs (two earned).
