NEC WOMEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sarah Mahon, Saint Francis U
Jr., A, Malverne, NY/Kellenberg Memorial
Mahon caught fire in the Red Flash's swing through California last week, scoring 11 goals and adding two assists in two games. She started by scoring four goals in SFU's slim one-goal loss to Fresno State. All four tallies came in the second half, including two straight goals to give the Red Flash a 12-11 lead late in the game before the Bulldogs rallied in the final two minutes for the win. Mahon followed with a career performance against Saint Mary's, posting nine points on seven goals and and two assists. The nine points tied a single-game program record while Mahon's seven goals marked a career-high. The junior has tallied 26 goals and 32 points on the season, both of which rank second on the team.
NEC WOMEN'S LACROSSE CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Katelyn Miller, Robert Morris
Fr., GK, Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright
Miller steadied Robert Morris defensively over the weekend, as she allowed a season-low six goals in RMU's 17-6 win over crosstown rival Duquesne. The Bel Air, MD native made nine saves to improve to 6-3 on the season. Miller has compiled an 8.88 goals-against average, .517 save percentage and 9.50 saves per game this season. Just a freshman, she has won four games in a row and started each of the last three victories for Robert Morris.
Samantha Santeramo, Bryant
Jr., GK, Wantagh, NY/Gen Douglas MacArthur
Santeramo posted another stellar performance between the pipes for Bryant with 10 saves in a 17-5 triumph over Siena. It marked her third straight games with double-digit saves. The two-time NEC Defensive Player of the Week honoree has posted an 8.23 goals-against average and .571 save percentage on the season for the Bulldogs.
NEC WOMEN'S LACROSSE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Carly Miller, Mount St. Mary's
Fr., A, Marriottsville, MD/Marriotts Ridge
Miller turned in a career performance on Saturday, leading the Mountaineer offense to an explosive 23-13 win over Radford. The freshman posted a career-high 11 points with five goals and six assists. She scored her first three goals in the first 10 minutes of the game as Mount St. Mary's built a 15-10 lead at intermission. Miller leads the Mount with 10 assists, and ranks second on the team in goals (11) and points (21).
NEC PRIME PERFORMERS
Bryant senior midfielder Ali Cardinal (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland Central) scored a career-high six goals in the Bulldogs' 17-5 win over Siena.
Robert Morris junior midfielder Dana Davis (Garnet Valley, PA/Garnet Valley) scored a season-high four goals on just four shots in the Colonials' 17-6 victory over visiting Duquesne. She added five ground balls, three draw controls and a caused turnover.
NEC HEADLINES
Saint Francis U Heather McKee (Bel Air, MD/Milton Wright Bel Air) posted 10 of her career-high 16 saves in the second half of a 21-14 win over St. Mary's on Sunday.
Bryant freshman Caitlin Breglia (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) notched a career-high four goals and five points in a 17-5 win over Siena. She scored all four goals unassisted and added four ground balls.
In RMU's 17-6 win over Duquesne, the Colonials received a stellar performance from freshman Annie Sachs (Baldwin, MD/Dulaney), who recorded three goals and three assists to match her career-high of six points in a game.
Saint Francis U senior midfielder Holly Lawrence (Damascus, MD/Damascus) ranks third in the nation with 3.78 goals per game.
Robert Morris continues to lead the country by a wide margin with 15.50 caused turnovers per outing.
The NEC has three players - Sacred Heart’s Caitlin Delaney (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) (3rd), CCSU’s Courtney McPartland (North Massapequa, NY/Farmingdale) (4th) and RMU’s Megan Wolfgang (Medina, OH/Medina) (8th) who rank in the top-10 nationally in caused turnovers per game.
