Geneva, OH -- With records falling left and right, Howard remaied atop the team leaderboard after day two of 2023 NEC Men's Swimming & Diving Championhips, but the Bison have some compnay.

Collecting 228 points, the Bison maintained a slim seven point lead over LIU (221) after the evening session on the second day of the competition at Spire Institute in Geneva, OH. St. Francis Brooklyn (148) and Wagner (140) rounded out the team scoring.

The evening had an electric start with a new meet record, broken by St. Francis Brooklyn's Valentin Schnermann, who swam a 4:28.77 in the 500 yard freestyle. Howard's Luke-Kennedy Thompson, who was the previous meet record holder, also broke his own mark for silver after touching at 4:28.79. Lincoln Greseth from LIU took bronze with a time of 4:32.59.

The 200 yard individual medley was a no doubter after Howard's Miles Simon swam a blistering 1:46.80 to set a new championship record and finish with over five seconds to spare from the rest of the field. Second and third was a tight finish between LIU teammates Stephen Taylor (1:52.45) and Lovro Dodic (1:52.96), who totaled 33 points between them.

Two individuals broke the meet record in the 50 yard freestyle. Alejandro Pascual Del Cid from LIU broke his record from last year's championship, tocuhing at 20.09. Mark-Anthony Beckles from Howard earned silver and also eclipsed the previous mark in 20.12, just ahead of Maurice Grabowski from St. Francis Brooklyn. who grabbed bronze with a 20.48 showing.

The evening finished with LIU's Benny Karlsson (22.99), Giannis Venetos (24.77), Ethan Law (21.73) and Alejandro Pascual Del Cid (19.41) earning the first place spot on the podium for the Sharks clocking in at 1:28.90 in the 200 yard medley relay. Tristan Stevens (22.40), Miguel Davis (25.10), Taj Benton (22.17) and Spencer Miles (20.14) earned silver for Howard with a time of 1:29.81. The St. Francis Brooklyn quartet of Maurice Grabowski (23.02), Luka Dmitrovic (24.91), Kamil Goleniec (22.21) and Daniel Mathrus Santos (20.08) earned bronze in 1:30.22.

The NEC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will resume on Thursday morning at 10:00 am with the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 free, men's one-meter diving and 200 free relay. Finals begin at 6:00 pm.
