NEC/ATLANTIC TOMORROW'S OFFICE MEN'S BASKETBALL CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Jalen Forrest, Chicago State
Jr., G, 6-5, 225 lbs.
Decatur, GA/Greenforest-McCalep Christian (GA) (Presbyterian))
Forrest secured Chicago State’s first-ever NEC Player of the Week award following an offensive eruption in a Cougar split. He averaged 27.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game, while knocking down 85.2 percent of his free throws (23-27) in a busy week at the stripe. Forrest exploded for a career-high and NEC season-best 37 points in Thursday’s 85-78 win over Mercyhurst, the most by a CSU player against a DI opponent in nearly 15 years. He scored 24 of those points in the second half, including an eight-point burst over an 84 second span that stretched CSU’s lead from four to 10 with 9:12 remaining. Two days later, he registered 17 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals against Saint Francis U. Forrest, who hails from Decatur, GA, has been red-hot over his last seven games, averaging 20.9 ppg on 51.1 percent shooting to raise his scoring average to a team-high 12.2 ppg.
Devin Haid, CCSU
Jr., G, 6-5, 190 lbs.
Wooster, OH/Wooster (Notre Dame College/Cuyahoga CC)
Haid’s conference-leading fifth NEC Player of the Week honor tied him for 14th on the league’s all-time single-season list. In a showdown of top contenders in New Britain on Thursday, Haid rang up a career-high 25 points on 8-12 shooting from the field and a perfect 7-7 at the free throw line, leading first-place Blue Devils to an 87-66 win over FDU, their sixth straight victory. He also contributed eight rebounds and two steals. Haid kickstarted a decisive 15-2 run with three made free throws, helping CCSU extend its lead to 68-53 with 9:51 remaining. It marked his fifth 20+ point performance of the season. Haid is the NEC’s sixth-leading scorer at 13.3 ppg and also ranks fifth in free throw percentage (.821), eighth in field goal percentage (.485) and ninth in rebounding (5.5).
NEC/ATLANTIC TOMORROW'S OFFICE MEN'S BASKETBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Cranford stuffed the stat sheet in Thursday’s 86-78 home win over Le Moyne on Thursday, finishing with 13 points, five rebounds and five assists. Then, in SFU’s first-ever trip to Chicago State, the Dayton, OH, native recorded his first career double-double and flirted with a triple-double in an 81-69 victory. Cranford finished with 10 points, a career-high 10 rebounds and career-best seven assists, the most by an NEC freshman this season. #NECMBB BY THE NUMBERS
11.3 - If CCSU sustains its +11.3 scoring margin in NEC play, it would match the highest mark since Wagner outscored opponents by 11.3 per game in the 2011-12 season.
24 - Mercyhurst’s Jeff Planutis (28) and Aidan Reichert (24) became the first NEC teammates this season to each score at least 24 points in the same game. Their combined 52 points also stand as the highest total by an NEC duo in a single game in 2024-25.
30 - There have been three 30-point performances in NEC play this season, all within an eight-day span to start February. LIU’s Malachi Davis scored 32 at Chicago State on Feb. 1, followed by CSU’s Jalen Forrest setting the NEC season high with 37 on Feb. 6. Two days later, Le Moyne’s AJ Dancler posted 32 at Mercyhurst. Each was a career-best effort.
55 - CCSU’s NEC opponents have struggled to get to the line, making just 63 free throws this season, 55 fewer than any other team in the conference has allowed.
#NECMBB FAST BREAK
CCSU
CCSU has committed just eight fouls in each of its last three games and ranks second nationally with only 11.2 fouls per game. The Blue Devils are on pace to shatter the NEC record of 13.0 fouls per game, set by Monmouth in 1989-90.
Chicago St.
Junior forward Quincy Allen is coming off his best week in a Cougar uniform, averaging 12.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg and 1.5 spg. He threw down five dunks in CSU’s split.
FDU
Graduate student forward Bismark Nsiah scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half, including seven points, two assists and a block, to spark a 15-0 second half run that gave FDU the lead for good in a 69-58 win over Wagner on Saturday.
Le Moyne
Redshirt sophomore Nate Fouts knocked down 3-of-5 from deep and matched his career high with 17 points at Mercyhurst on Saturday. He also pulled down nine rebounds, just one short of his career-best.
LIU
Junior guard Blake Lander poured in a career-high 18 points, knocking down 4-6 showing from outside the arc, in Thursday’s 60-47 road victory over Wagner.
Mercyhurst
The Lakers shot a perfect 16-16 from the line against Le Moyne on Sunday and were 29-32 from the stripe last week, a 90.6 success rate.
Saint Francis U
In its sweep last week, SFU shot 54.0 percent from the field against Le Moyne and 54.5 percent at Chicago St. It was the first time the Red Flash shot over 54 percent in back-to-back games since hitting 60.0 percent against American and 60.4 percent at Stony Brook on Nov. 29 and Dec. 2, 2017.
Stonehill
Stonehill dished out assists on 18 of its 21 field goals at LIU on Saturday. The Skyhawks lead the NEC with 15.0 apg and rank 11th nationally in assist percentage at 62.2 percent.
Wagner
Of Wagner senior forward Tyje Kelton’s 44 made field goals this season, 39 have come from three-point range or 88.6 percent. He ranks 49th nationally in three-point attempt rate (min. 1/game), taking 83.3 percent of his shots from downtown.

>> CCSU ROAD SHOW
The Blue Devils have been road warriors all season, and the numbers back it up.
CCSU continues to lead the nation with 10 road wins on the season.
CCSU also boasts a spotless 6-0 record in NEC play away from home.
With two more road victories, CCSU would join an exclusive club, becoming just the third team in NEC history to complete an unbeaten conference road slate. CCSU (10-0 in 2001-02) and Robert Morris (9-0 in 2007-08) achieved perfection on the road.
CCSU has also won seven straight road games, tying the Blue Devils for the second-longest active streak in the country.

>> FORREST ON FIRE: COUGARS’ STAR DROPS 37 IN COMEBACK WIN
Chicago State junior guard
Jalen Forrest (Decatur, GA/Greenforest-McCalep Christian (GA) (Presbyterian)) has been on an upward trajectory in recent weeks, but last Thursday night was his star-making performance.
The Decatur, GA native erupted for a career-high 37 points in the Cougars’ 85-78 come-from-behind home win over Mercyhurst.
The NEC Co-Player of the Week took over in the second half, scoring 24 of his 37 points as CSU erased a 14-point first-half deficit.
He shot 8-18 from the field and 4-8 from three-point range, but his biggest impact came at the free-throw line, where he knocked down 17-20 attempts.
His 37-point explosion marked the highest single-game total in the NEC this season and the most since Le Moyne’s Kaiyem Cleary dropped 43 against LIU on January 27, 2024.
It also tied for 32nd on the NCAA single-game chart this season and was the highest output by a Chicago State player since Xavier Johnson’s 37-point game against Judson on November 5, 2019. No Cougar had scored more against a DI opponent since David Holston’s 39-point performance against Houston Christian nearly 15 years ago on February 9, 2009.
This performance came on the heels of a spectacular OT display last Saturday, when Forrest carried the Cougars across the finish line in a thrilling 73-67 overtime win over LIU.
Forrest poured in 14 of CSU’s 15 points in the extra session, capping off his afternoon with the biggest shot of the game, an NBA-range dagger three with 30 seconds left that pushed the Cougars’ lead to 68-64.
Forrest is heating up at the right time. Over his last seven outings, he is averaging 20.9 points on 51.1 percent shooting to raise his scoring average to a team-high 12.2 ppg.
His 17.3 ppg average in NEC play ranks him fourth on the circuit.
>> KRIMMEL JOINS CENTURY CLUB WITH 100TH WIN AT DEGOL ARENA
With its 86-78 victory over Le Moyne on Thursday, Saint Francis U head coach Rob Krimmel became the first coach in program history to win 100 games in DeGol Arena.
SFU men’s volleyball head coach Mike Rumbaugh is the only other coach to reach the mark in the gym that opened in the 1972-73 season.
“It’s a special place to play,” said Krimmel after the game. “It really is. As a former player, I love playing here as a coach. We have such great support from our community. It’s just a great place to play college basketball and to be able to do it in front of our alums, and with the way these guys performed, it’s certainly something I’ll remember when I’m done coaching.”
Krimmel’s previous milestone was his 100th career NEC victory, which came under remarkably similar circumstances to last Thursday’s achievement. Both milestones took place during the first home game in February, against an opponent in its second year in the NEC and against a coach leading his alma mater. Krimmel reached his 100th NEC win on February 10, 2024, against Stonehill.
The Dean of NEC head coaches currently sits in 12th place on the league’s all-time list with 104 victories, and is two away from moving into the 11th spot. Krimmel’s 164 wins also rank fourth in Saint Francis history by any coach and are the second most by a men’s basketball head coach, trailing only Dr. William “Skip” Hughes.
>> UP NEXT ON NEC-TV
The NEC-TV package resumes Saturday in New England, where Stonehill, boasting an 8-3 home record, faces off against a red-hot Mercyhurst team that has won five of its last six games. This will be Mercyhurst’s first appearance on the NEC-TV package.
The contest, which tips at 3:30 pm, will receive widespread coverage, airing nationally on ESPN+ and across the conference footprint on YES Network, SNP+ and NESN Nation.
Longtime NEC announcers Paul Dottino (PxP) and Joe DeSantis (analyst) have the call.
>> FDU’S BROWN EYES RARE DOUBLE
FDU sophomore guard
Terrence Brown (Minneapolis, MN/Columbia Heights) has been lighting up the scoreboard all season, and his scoring prowess has been well documented on these pages.
Not only is Brown the NEC’s leading scorer and one of the nation’s top point producers, but he’s also positioned himself to achieve a rare statistical double: leading the conference in both scoring and steals.
This accomplishment is no easy feat. In the NEC’s 44-year history, only two players have ever pulled it off, both by LIU legends.
Back in 1997-98, LIU’s Charles Jones led the entire country with 29.0 ppg while also pacing the NEC and ranking ninth nationally with 2.9 spg. Four seasons later, Antawn Dobie repeated the feat, posting 21.2 ppg and 2.3 spg.
Brown is now making a push to add his name to that exclusive list. The Minneapolis native is currently averaging 20.8 ppg and his 1.96 spg is just percentage points behind Wagner’s Zaire Williams, who averages 2.0 per outing.
>> CCSU DOUBLING UP
With first-place CCSU surging out to a 8-2 start and holding a one lead over LIU (8-4) with two games in hand, it’s no surprise the Blue Devils are setting the standard in efficiency.
Right now, CCSU leads the NEC in both offensive efficiency (108.3) and defensive efficiency (91.1) during league play, instances of which are few and far between in league history.
How rare is it? Over the past 25 years, only three teams have finished a season atop both categories.
And here’s the twist...each time, it was CCSU.
The Blue Devils pulled off the feat in their championship-winning campaigns of 1999-00, 2001-02 and 2006-07. Now, they’re on track to do it again.
Year OE DE
2024-25 108.3 91.1

2001-02 110.0 90.7

>> NOTHING BUT NET QUARTET
We’ve already highlighted the sharpshooting seasons of
Stonehill’s Todd Brogna (Southborough, MA/Worcester Academy) and Saint Francis U’s
Juan Cranford Jr. (Dayton, OH/Wayne).
Now, it’s time to add two more names to the conversation.
SFU junior guard
Riley Parker (Mandurah, Australia/Mandurah Catholic College) has been lights-out from all three levels, leading the Red Flash with 12.8 ppg while shooting 48.0 percent from the field, 40.9 percent from deep and 86.4 percent from the line.
Meanwhile, Mercyhurst graduate forward
Jeff Planutis (Hazleton, PA/Hazleton) has been one of the most efficient scorers in the NEC. He ranks third in the league with 15.3 ppg, backed by 46.6 percent shooting overall, 40.3 percent from beyond the arc and 89.5 percent at the stripe.
These four are on pace to post some of the most efficient shooting splits in league history. Here’s how their numbers stack up:
Season Shooting Splits
Jeff Planutis (MU) - 46.6/40.3/89.5
Riley Parker (SFU) - 48.0/40.9/86.4
Juan Cranford, Jr. (SFU) - 47.5/39.0/89.2
Todd Brogna (STO) - 52.7/42.3/90.9
Since the NEC’s inception, only four players have met the baseline of these splits (46.6/39.0/86.4) in a single season (min. 10.0 ppg & 1.0 3P/gm):
Player FG% FT% 3P% Year
Mike Iuzzolino (SFU) 0.552 0.871 0.516 1989-90

>> MERCYHURST MONEY AT THE LINE
Mercyhurst’s success at the free-throw line has sparked plenty of discussion in NEC circles this season, and it’s been a key factor in their ability to close out several conference wins.
The Lakers are currently shooting a league-best 79.9 percent from the stripe, a figure that ranks them eighth nationally.
Mercyhurst’s free-throw precision has them positioned to challenge CCSU’s NEC record of 78.2 percent set in the 2018-19 season.
Here’s a look at the top-5 single-season free-throw marks in NEC history.
2018-19 CCSU .782
2010-11 Wagner .772
2004-05 Monmouth .771
1990-91 Monmouth .771
2010-11 CCSU .767
But there’s more.
On Saturday, the Lakers tied the NEC single-game record for free throw accuracy, going 16-16 from the stripe in a four-point win over Le Moyne.
100% Club: NEC’s Perfect Free Throw Performances (16+ makes)

1. Bernie Blunt III .922
3. Jeff Planutis .895
9. Shemar Rathan-Mayes .783
>> NEC DUNK LEADERS
After another round of highlight reel throwdowns this past week, it seems like the perfect time to check in on the NEC’s top individual rim-rockers this season.
Le Moyne redshirt junior
Dwayne Koroma (Berlin, Germany/Bishop Walsh (MD) (Iona/Salt Lake CC/UT Arlington)) is not only leading the pack in dunks, but he’s also on track to break the league’s dunk record, which has stood since the 2011-12 season when Synergy began tracking NEC games.
With 41 dunks, Koroma is just five shy of the NEC mark held by Saint Francis U’s Josh Nebo, who threw down 46 in 2016-17.
NEC Dunk Leaders per Synergy Sports (2024-25)
Dwayne Koroma (LEM) 41
Jo’el Emanuel (FDU) 18
Abdul Momoh (CCSU) 14
Bismark Nsiah (FDU) 14

The NEC’s top dunking team? Le Moyne with 62, while CCSU isn’t far behind at 55.
>> RED FLASH B2B & TRAVEL NOTES
With victories over Mercyhurst (86-78) and Chicago State (81-69) last week, Saint Francis U has won back-to-back games for the second time this year in league play. Both winning streaks started with a win at home and was followed by a victory on the road.
The Red Flash also scored 80 points in back-to-back contests for the first time since a 93-82 win at LIU on February 18, 2023 and an 82-72 home triumph against FDU on February 23, 2023.
Finally, the win in Chicago was the program’s first-ever in the state of Illinois. The Red Flash previously played at Illinois-Chicago in 1983-84, 1999-00 and 2017-18, and at Illinois in 2021-22.
>> THIS & THAT
Chicago State senior guard
Gabe Spinelli (Chicago, IL/Watertown (Evansville/Monmouth)) scored a game-high 23 points on Saturday against SFU. He converted 9-17 shots and dished for four assists. The 23 points were two shy of his career-high set at Stonehill on January 24.
FDU graduate student forward
Bismark Nsiah (Bronx, NY/Lehman (Jefferson)) was fantastic in the second half of the Knights’ 69-58 conquest of Wagner on Saturday. He scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half and added 10 rebounds in his third double-double of the season. Nsiah sank four straight free throws in the final minute to ice the game.
LIU senior forward
Jamal Fuller (Toronto, Canada/Hill College/Academy of Art University) hit two big buckets down the stretch to help the Sharks hold off Stonehill on Saturday. His personal 5-0 run gave LIU a seven-point edge with 1:33 to play in the 62-59 victory.
Saint Francis U freshman guard
Jeremy Clayville (Ridgewood, NJ/St. Joseph Metuchen) knocked down 7-9 shots from three-point range last week. He sank 5-6 from long distance and scored a team-high 17 points in just 21 minutes off the bench in Saturday’s win at Chicago State.
Wagner senior guard
Zaire Williams (Brooklyn, NY/Eagle Academy (NY)) recorded three steals against both LIU and FDU last week and is now the league leader at 2.0 per game. He also supplied 14.0 ppg and 6.0 rpg.
>> NEC ANALYTICS ZONE (w/ Ryan Peters, NEC Overtime! blogger)
LIU’s
Blake Lander (Beverly Hills, CA/Prolific Prep (West Los Angeles College)) was terrific in the Shark’s victory over Wagner last Thursday, scoring a career high 18 points on eight shots. What’s more impressive about Lander scoring 30 percent of LIU’s points in the victory - a season high - is that all of his three-point makes were considered guards per Synergy. The Beverly Hills, CA native drained 4-of-6 from long range with three of those makes coming against Wagner’s zone defense. All four shots were of the catch-and-shoot variety. For the season, Lander has made 34 percent of his guarded catch and shoot three-point attempts, which is above average and in the top 62 percentile of college basketball.
Saint Francis U’s offense picked a good time to have a stellar week, as the Red Flash dropped 1.19 points per possession and a 64.8 percent effective field goal percentage in two victories over Le Moyne and Chicago State. SFU’s three-point shooting in particular was lethal, as the Red Flash made 11 triples in both games, the first time they have hit that mark against a DI opponent this season. For the season, the Red Flash are in the top 72 percentile of all of college basketball in jump-shot proficiency, converting 43 percent of their two-point jumpers and 34 percent of their three-point jumpers.
Despite dropping two hard-fought games over the past weekend, the Stonehill offense continues to share the ball at a terrific clip. In a 62-59 loss to LIU, the Skyhawks had 18 assists on 21 made buckets for a fantastic 85.7 percent assist to made FGs ratio. For the 2024-25 campaign, Stonehill posted an assist on 62 percent of their made baskets, the 11th best mark in Division I basketball. The Skyhawks defense is also doing a good job of preventing opponents from racking up assists, as opponents can only boast an A/FGM ratio of 39.3 percent, the fourth lowest mark in college basketball. Five Skyhawks have assist rates north of 16 percent, illustrating a balanced offensive approach from Chris Kraus’ group.
